HYDRANT FLUSHING AND VALVE EXERCISING PROGRAM

HYDRANT FLUSHING
Event Date:
Wednesday, May 14, 2025 - 9:00am to 3:00pm

ATTENTION:    Residents of the Borough of Wallington

The Borough of Wallington Water Department will start its hydrant flushing and valve exercise program on Monday, April 7th, 2025. This is an ongoing maintenance program that ensures the delivery of high-quality water. The work will be done between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The water delivery maintenance schedule will continue until November 1st. This will include the two flushings required by the DEP. Flushing will begin with the hydrants at the southwest end of Wallington near Gregory Ave Bridge, and we will make our way across town, doing around 15 to 20 fire hydrants daily.

Your water service may be disrupted for a brief period of time, and residents may notice discoloration in their water. When the existing water mains are disturbed, this is to be expected and normal. The discoloration provides no health risk, but residents should avoid consuming the discolored water. When washing clothes, proceed with caution. If you see discoloration, simply let the water run from your cold water tap until it clears. Do not turn on the hot water tap until the water has cleared. If you have any questions regarding this program, call (973) 777-0318 during normal business hours.

Regardless of where the starting point is, the entire borough's water may become discolored. It is impossible to predict who will be affected during the flushing process.

This practice must be done twice a year as per the Department of Environmental Protection.

The Borough of Wallington apologizes for any inconvenience during this time and appreciates your cooperation.
